Korea KOSO

PLM Case Studies
Improving the value chain from order to production with a PLSCM system integrated with external partners.

Overview
Founded in 1979, Korea KOSO Co., Ltd. is a 100% subsidiary of Nihon KOSO Co., Ltd., a global leader in industrial automatic control valves established in 1965. Korea KOSO specializes in assembling high-precision specialty valves and various components, supplying them to leading domestic and global companies in the shipbuilding and plant industries.

Background and Objectives

Korea KOSO faced three major business challenges at the time:

  1. Systematic Management of Large-Scale Contracts: The company needed to establish a structured approach to managing large contracts with EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) clients.

  2. Efficient Management of Customer Requirements: It was essential to manage new design specifications and manufacturing requirements from customers in a streamlined manner.

  3. Global Collaboration: Implementing a system to enable seamless collaboration with customers and suppliers worldwide became a priority.

  4. The valves produced by Korea KOSO are manufactured using DTO (Design to Order) or ETO (Engineer to Order) models. In such cases, organic integration of processes, including product development, procurement, and production, as well as data consolidation, is crucial for maintaining competitiveness.

To address these challenges, Korea KOSO implemented a PLSCM (Product Lifecycle Supply Chain Management) system. This was achieved by leveraging the Aras Innovator PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) solution to innovate and integrate processes across PLM and SCM (Supply Chain Management). This integration brought about significant improvements in efficiency and competitiveness.

Impact of Implementation
Anchor 2

In the PLM domain, a product information management system was established, incorporating value chain-based project management processes into the PLSCM system. Additionally, Korea KOSO enhanced its QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) capabilities and implemented company-wide standard information management for BOM (Bill of Materials). To ensure supply chain visibility, the company promoted supply chain innovations aimed at improving on-time delivery and reducing inventory, while also streamlining decision-making processes. As a result, collaboration with external supply chain partners was strengthened. Ultimately, the PLSCM system comprehensively improved internal processes and the value chain across order receipt, development, procurement, and production.

In the sales management domain, functionalities such as customer information management, quote management with automatic profit margin calculation, specification management, and progress tracking for design and production were implemented.

For engineering management, features included technical specification management, component and BOM management, and CAD integration.

In the production management domain, functionalities like valve-specific design progress tracking, valve-specific operation management, and task progress monitoring were introduced.

For procurement and quality management, the system enabled operation tracking and progress monitoring by department, as well as quality performance record management for the quality assurance team.

These innovations enabled Korea KOSO to optimize its processes and significantly enhance its operational efficiency across the board.
